Psychotherapists in Toronto: Empowering Women

Founded in January 2024 by Sarika Lalchan, Support Me Psychotherapy emerged from a heartfelt commitment to address the mental health challenges faced by mothers. Inspired by her experiences as a nurse working with mothers of sick infants, Sarika recognized the profound need for specialized support to help women navigate the emotional complexities of motherhood.

Sarika Lalchan

Sarika Lalchan, the esteemed Founder of Support Me Psychotherapy, is a dedicated professional with over 15 years of experience in the field of women's mental health. Her journey into this field was deeply personal and transformative. As a mother, Sarika recognized a significant gap in mental health support not only for mothers but for women at various stages of their lives. She candidly shares her own experience of prioritizing others' needs over her own, running on empty until she discovered the vital importance of self-care. This realization led her to develop practical, everyday solutions that have profoundly changed her life and the lives of countless women she supports. Sarika's commitment to nurturing the well-being of women with empathetic and specialized care is the cornerstone of her practice.

Embarking on the path of self-discovery can be both exciting and daunting. Here, you’ll find warmth, empathy, and a genuine desire to understand your unique and diverse experiences. I am here to listen and support you in a judgment-free space where you can express yourself freely and authentically.

I work with individuals facing generalized anxiety, relationship challenges, stress, burnout, life transitions, depression, including postpartum depression, and fertility challenges, which can bring unique emotional strains. These experiences can leave you feeling disconnected, isolated, and confused. Together, we’ll explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe haven where you feel heard, validated, and understood. We’ll work to uncover the roots of your challenges and help you find clarity. Together, we’ll develop effective coping strategies, strengthen your emotional resilience, and foster a deeper connection with yourself.

One of the most rewarding aspects of my work is helping clients rediscover their inner strength and self-awareness. I believe that when you understand and care for yourself, you’re better equipped to navigate life’s challenges and build a life that feels meaningful and fulfilling. In our sessions, we will focus on developing coping strategies, improving emotional regulation, and enhancing communication skills, empowering you to move through life with greater ease and confidence.

I draw from a range of therapeutic modalities, including Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT), mindfulness practices, experiential therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), attachment theory, and polyvagal theory. These approaches allow me to tailor our work to meet your unique needs, helping you not only manage immediate challenges but also find a sense of safety within yourself and your surroundings, and build a foundation for personal growth and long-term well-being.

Beginning the journey of therapy is a courageous step toward a brighter future. Let’s work together to help you live a more connected, balanced, and fulfilling life. If you’re ready to explore, heal, and grow, I am here to walk alongside you.

My journey to psychotherapy began after years of supporting clients in various community settings dedicated to supporting those experiencing poverty, domestic violence and sexual violence. These experiences helped me realize I wanted to focus my work on supporting clients in their healing journeys and help others rediscover themselves after difficult times in their life.

Our lives today are often very demanding and we can find ourselves being pulled in too many directions, causing us to lose sight of ourselves. Sometimes we struggle to adapt to new roles or find we have no idea how to actually take care of our own needs. I aim to help clients feel reconnected to their values, turn feelings of shame and guilt into self-compassion and find new ways of coping. I enjoy supporting parents who have experienced their own trauma and want to break cycles so they can show up for their children in a way they never experienced. Traumatic or difficult reproductive and birth experiences can also shift how you feel about yourself and how you live your life – you are not alone and processing your story can help you move forward in a new way. No matter what life has thrown your way, healing is possible.

My approach is warm and compassionate with a focus on creating safety and trust. I work from a relational, trauma-informed and attachment-based approach. I also work from an intersectional feminist lens, which means I recognize power dynamics in society and the various ways our social identities can shape the power and oppression we experience. I have supported clients in many different areas but I have a special interest in supporting those who have experienced childhood or relational trauma and those who had a difficult birth. I am also passionate about helping others learn to set boundaries in their lives so they can feel more at peace and connected to themselves. I would love to be a part of your own healing journey.
